In the Rock Junior Open Pro-Am held at Matfen Luke Brown's team was first. The team Tom Lee played in was third.
The Junior Championship was played on Friday 28th August 2009 in very windy conditions and the golf played on the day was a credit to all our Junior golfers. Best gross and Junior Champion - Josh Thompson. Best nett boy Kieran Wrench. Best nett girl Alice Jones. On Sunday 30th August 2009 the Juniors play at Wearside in the first of the County Play-offs. Lets hope we can finish the season as County Champions.

They now play in a 3-match round robin between the North West, North East and ourselves to decide the County Championship. Well done to the Juniors.
Next weekend (7th, 8th and 9th August 2009) the Juniors play in the Junior County Champions play-off at Burghley Park.
July has been a quiet month for Junior competitions. The draw and times for the Medal Q4 and the E Whiles/J Harpin are in the Locker Room. The Junior team played at Bishop Auckland last Tuesday and lost 6 to 4 under the conditions very wet and windy, it was not a bad result. We play Eaglescliffe on Thursday 30th July 2009. A good result in this the last of the season could result in Billingham Juniors becoming league champions.
The Junior County Championship, in which we represent Durham County, is to be played at Burghley Park, Lincolnshire, on the weekend of 7th, 8th and 9th August 2009. The team which has been selected is O Thompson, J Thompson, K Bacon and B Hildreth.

May 2009
May has been a good month for Junior Golf.
Junior Open - 29/05/2009
Just under 60 Junior golfers were scheduled to play in the end 55 played. It was a very good day for Junior Golf in general. The course was and looked in excellent condition, thanks to Bob Lawton, lots of scores between 67 and 71 which was rather a lot of card checking. My thanks to Paula Stewart and Carol Jones who kept the scoresheet up-to-date and recorded all scores on Carol's laptop, which was very much needed at the end of the Junior Open. John Dobson and Mick Wray were our Starters who did a terrific job in keeping the game moving and adjusting names and times where people did not turn up. The winners for the day were:
0-12 Division - 1st J Conley (Seaton Carew) - 69, 2nd K Noble (Whitby) - 71
13-24 Division - 1st S Donald (Eaglescliffe) - 65, 2nd K Wrench (Billingham) - 66 BB9

13-24 handicaps - 1st J Dixon - 39 pts, 2nd G Speight - 37 pts, 3rd S Hall - 36 pts
J Dixon had already qualified in this division, so G Speight and S Hall qualify.
25-36 handicap - 1st D Cannon - 42 pts, 2nd L Cooper - 39 pts, L Cooper qualifies.
On the same day as the Stableford we had 2 teams of 3 Junior golfers representing Billingham in the Junior Team Championship Qualifier played at Castle Eden. The team of S Stewart, J Thompson and B Hildreth won the event and were presented with the A Doxford Trophy. This was a great result for Billingham and the Team who won the cup, the disappointing part of the win is we cannot represent the Junior Teesside & District Union because we are members of the Southern Junior County Golf and only a Yorkshire Team can go forward to the play off.
Junior Team Match - 14/05/2009
The Junior Team played Blackwell Grange at home and won 7 to 3. Next week is a home match against Hartlepool.

The Junior Easter Scramble was held on Saturday 11th April 2009, an excellent response from the seniors and adults resulted in a very enjoyable day. Easter eggs were donated by the Club Captain (Les Crank), Ivan Smith and Denis Best.
The format used for the first time for our Juniors and most of the seniors was a Florida Scramble and proved to be a success with many comments and suggestions that we use the format for future games. The game consisted of 3 players, 2 adults and a junior, with a total of 62 people playing. The ladies and junior girls received 1 shot each and the shots allowed were one tenth of the combined handicap of the 3 ball.

More food news for our Junior girls - Alice Jones and Bethany Collict qualified in the Clement Trophy - only the top 8 qualified. Alice finished 1st and Beth finished 8th. The system used by the County is the 1st place plays 8th place, so Alice plays Beth at Billingham, so we have a player for certain in the Semi-final. Well done Girls!
JUNIOR SECTION COACHING SESSIONS

Sunday morning practice sessions begin on Sunday 19th April 2009.
Keep checking the Noticeboard.
JUNIOR SECTION AGM
The Junior Section Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 16th March 2009. The response to the letters sent out was very disappointing.
The Club Captain, Les Crank, explained to the Juniors about his chosen Charity for his year of Captaincy. Les is supporting North East Children's Cancer and asked for volunteers who are prepared to be sponsored to run round Newcastle Racecourse. Les will provide transport to and from the event. Watch the Junior Noticeboard for details.
Greens Chairman, David Jeffcock, asked for help from the Junior Section during the Easter Holidays to repair the divots on the fairways. For those who help from Monday to Friday, David will run a competition on the Friday. Once again keep looking at the Noticeboard.
The Commitee was introduced to the people present and outlined the plans for the Practice Sessions. The Sunday morning sessions will not start as the 2009 Diary states, the start date will be posted on the Junior noticeboard. The Monday evening sessions will start as the 2009 Diary states.
A revised workbook has been produced for the coming season for all our new Junior members to be completed and signed off to achieve the Certificate of Competence.
Billingham Golf Club has a popular and thriving Junior Section which is well supported by the Directors and adult Members. One of the reasons for the section being so popular is because of the very reasonable Junior fees - under 12 fees are £65 and 12 & over £140 - there is no joining fee!
During the week we organise 3 hours of supervised practice, with advice being given by experienced adult and junior golfers. Juniors are also given a certain amount of coaching from the Club Professional, Mike Ure - the aim being that all Juniors receive one hour of coaching every 6/8 weeks.
We have 9 girls within our section and would like to encourage more young ladies to join.
If parents have any questions concerning Junior golf, please contact Junior Liaison Officer, John Darbyshire on 01642 675363.
